Romeo Is Bleeding (1994) starring Gary Oldman, Annabella Sciorra, Lena Olin, James Cromwell, Juliette Lewis, Will Patton, and Roy Scheider is one of the best crime movies you will ever see. Directed by Peter Medak and written by Hilary Henkin.

This is a story about Jack. A hopeless romantic who loves the ladies. Jack is also a corrupt cop who supplies tips on the safeguarded locations of mob informant witnesses. For every tip he gives the mob he gets $50,000. Life is good for Jack. He has a beautiful wife. He has a girlfriend. And he has money. Everything is perfect. But things are about to change.

When Jack meets Mona, a Russian mobstress, she is in custody and he transports her to a hotel for holding until she can be turned over to the feds. Even though Mona is very dangerous, cunning, and diabolical, she is very beautiful and sexy. And Jack is obsessed with her. Mona loves to play games and uses her sexual attributes exceptional well to get what she wants.

When Jack tells his mob contact where she is, he is paid and he forgets about Mona. However, when Mona disappears, he suddenly has a big problem. He is ordered to kill Mona. But he doesn't want to do it. But nobody ever says no to a mob order.

Surprisingly, Mona makes contact with Jack, and he informs her of what he was ordered to do. So they make a deal. Mona pays Jack to make it look like he has killed her. But that doesn't solve anything. The mob know that Mona is still alive, and now Jack has to pay. Pay dearly.

This is a no holds barred crime noir thriller. This movie has been compared to "Reservoir Dogs" and "True Romance". This is a really good movie. Even though this movie is set in the 90's, it is pure 40's in film noir. This movie is top-rated by most reviewers on all the popular movie websites.

Without Lena Olin's performance, this movie would have been sub-par or even ordinary. However, with a villainess as fun as Mona Demarkov, it is impossible not to find a lot of enjoyment amidst Oldman's seriousness amidst all the bloody corpses.

Rated R for nudity, sexual episodes and disturbing violence.
